Lower Cost
Veterinary Care

Certainly community providers offer low rates. If you are looking for low cost services, the best thing you can do is call around and get quotes from multiple clinics. One clinic may offer the lowest price microchipping but have the highest cost vaccines. Call ahead so you can figure out the best clinic for you and your pet’s needs.

Be sure to ask about estimates, rates, what’s strongly recommended, optional, or required before you enter your appointment.

Dentals

Almost every dog and cat will need a dental at some point in their life. The best way to avoid needing a dental is by providing preventative care to your pet such as brushing their teeth or by providing them with dental cleaning treats or food.

The average cost of dental cleaning WITHOUT extractions is around $500. That amount is for small dogs and cats - large animals like big dogs will cost more. The cost of a tooth extraction can range from $100-$200 per tooth.

Vaccinations

Low-cost vaccine clinics offer vaccination packages, including rabies tags. If you only need a rabies tag or parish license, where you get it, may depend on where you live.

Most Parishes require owned pet to have a rabies license, also known as a rabies tag. Need more info or just need a rabies tag? See the section labeled “only need a rabies tags or license?”

    • First, call the LASPCA immediately and/or report it on their website.

    • Check the “found animals” page on the LASPCA website as well.

    • The LASPCA is the authority that most likely has your pet in Orleans Parish.

    • Having a collar/tags or a microchip helps recover your pet as fast and safely as possible.

    • With collars, tags, chips, the LASPCA gives you 7 days to pickup/reclaim your pet.

    • Without a tag or microchip, you have 3 days. If you do not pickup during that time, they

      can be euthanized.

    • Recovering your pet will cost $25 for each day they are there.

    • If your pet is not in compliance with local laws, there may be additional fees at pickup:

      (rabies/tag, intact permit (for dogs) or Spay/Neuter, Vaccines). They offer payment plans.

    • If your pet is not at the LASPCA, check in with Pawboost, facebook lost and found pages, and your nextdoor app.
